A pause never uses a scan. Your price and any offer for your country are shown in the App Store before you pay. Subscriptions renew automatically and can be cancelled any time in your App Store settings.

Subscriptions are handled by the App Store. Manage or cancel any time in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone.
The Field Guide, your Bug Hotel and your cards work offline. Identifying, Ask Peeka and live Bug Brief numbers need an internet connection. A saved trip keeps a snapshot of its brief for offline reading.
